Karunanayake Family

                               

Saturday, December 21, 2013, we were invited to have dinner with the Karunanayake family. They are from Sri Lanka, and have been here a year this week. Within a few days of arrival, they were contacted by the missionaries and joined the Church last February. They are in our Temple Prep class and are anxious to go to the temple this coming February. They served us a typical Sri Lanka meal. The mother, Nilmini and father, Donandra (Don) served us while we ate with their daughter, Nema, and twin boys, Argun and Apoorwa. The meal was primarily cooked by Don. As is traditional for them, they, like the Fijians, do not use utensils to eat; we did. One of these days I’m going to really go native!





Their home is immaculate and front yard area is full of native plants.....





We are enjoying getting to know this family more each week; and really look forward to being with them in the temple on their sealing day!

Island Tour: First Day!

Vacation Time!!

On Tuesday, Dec. 17th, about noon, we started on our island tour. This was the first opportunity that we have had to travel around our island of Veti Levu.


Stopped on the way to eat a hamburger (the best!) at The Water's Edge, Pacific Harbor.

We drove to Nadi (pronounced Nandi), about a 4 to 5 hour drive. Just before reaching Nadi, we stopped and bought peanuts and a ready-to-eat pineapple. And a Mango...It was red, and bigger than a softball. It was our breakfast the next morning – it was soooo gooood, and all we could eat!





We had reservations the first night in Nadi at The Tanoa International....great place!  We swam, ate pizza, and had a great place to sleep.

Island Tour: Second Day!

The next morning, December 18th, (after eating our mango--ymmmm!) We traveled North, seeing the country of farms and mountains....looking different from our own Suva area.



Approximately five miles north of Nadi (if you get to the divided highway, you have traveled too far) we turned right off the road and ventured until we found The Garden of the Sleeping Giant. Lots and lots of orchids and other flowers--beautiful. We spent a good hour plus, enjoying and taking bunches of pictures.































          We loved it!!!
