DIWALI

DIWALI is an Indian holiday, a five day event that lasts at least ten days! It is filled with fireworks and prayers. The main day, the middle of the five days, was Sunday. Fireworks are available in every store, and they buy a lot of them. Every night for a week before and a week after, we were kept awake with the loud booms. The fireworks are still on the shelves, and we are still “enjoying” the late night celebrations! But you can’t imagine what it was like, that Saturday and Sunday night!

We could look out any window, or off the porch in any direction, and see continuous sky rockets for several hours. It was like a grand finale, and we were in the center of the show, and it lasted for hours, well past midnight, when we went to sleep! The sky became cloudy with the smoke.
This is Elder Collins off the balcony with the loudest popping ”sparklers”; all you kids would love these!!!

The homes are lit up, like Christmas in the States, in all the neighborhoods. It was fun to go to town during the Dewali days. The Indian women wear their traditional dress. They are very colorful. Those celebrating Dewali have parties and invite friends over for food, serving their traditional foods and goodies.
