Some Daily Doings

Now for our mission assignment. Last week we were involved in interviewing six candidates for the Home Economics teaching position for next year. There were six of us appointed for the panel to listen to and meet the candidates. We met some very viable candidates. We have chosen two to send for final review. Hopefully we will get approval to hire someone before school starts in February – it’s a long process, going through the Area Presidency and then receiving the approval of ½ of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and the First Presidency.--they are the Board of Education over our Church Schools. We are confident that the best one for the position will be selected.

We have also been busy helping with the year-end inventories. Sister Collins wanted to become involved in the Home Economics area, so that she would feel more familiar with what is really there; so that we could be of the best help this coming school year. Sister Buresova, the current Home Ec. teacher--retiring this year, has welcomed us in participating in this year's inventory. We've spent a couple Saturdays doing this.

While we were there this last Saturday, the grounds people were "mowing" the lawn with their weed-eaters! They are phenominal!

We visit the Temple Complex several times a week, not only to attend the Temple, but also to go to the Mission Office. On the same grounds are also the Mission President's Home, the Temple President's home, and the Temple Senior Couples apartment.

We oft times bring our own lunch to school; and sometimes, we have gone to the school cafeteria--they usually offer a couple choices and/or a sandwich. We find that they cut up their meat like they did in the West Indies--bones and all! It becomes quite flavorful that way!

We are still waiting for the curriculum materials to come from Fiji National University for all of the TVET courses. Friday Nov, 15th was the last day of classes for the summer break. This week, the faculty and administration will be on campus. Graduation and the “Graduation Prom”, is this Friday. The school is beginning to feel empty.

We have also been asked to serve in our Suva 1st Ward as their Gospel Doctrine(Ed), Gospel Principles(Joyce)teachers and teach the Temple Prep class (both of us)--we have four ready to attend the Temple. We feel the need to try to see if we can train someone to do these things. It seems as if the people are willing and will say "yes", and then not show after the first time doing their calling... hmmmm! perplexing!

Just a few of our daily doings! We're loving our time here.
