The FIRST TVET Summit in the South Pacific Schools was held at the end of June in Nadi. People traveled from Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand, Kiribati, and five of us from Suva. There were about thirty plus participants. We stayed at the Novatel Hotel in Nadi; nice rooms, a swimming pool, and great food! Elder Goodlet even tried the pool table.
Each of the TVET missionary couples had to prepare a 30-45 minute presentation for the group. Elder Collins presented one on "Practical Projects in TVET courses"; and Sister Collins prepared hers on "Assessment Tools for TVET". We re-learned how to develop a power point presentation; it was good for us. The Area Coordinators developed some information data for us; we broke into committees to discuss different problems/situations that come with new programs; and we had super discussions about what curriculum fit each of the countries--noting that each country has different needs and different resources!
We toured some kitchens at the local Universities, as we in Fiji are having our kitchen re-done to become more of a commercial kitchen. The other countries are considering what to do with their present situations. The bottom two pictures are the model we are using; six work stations with added upright coolers and storage spaces; a dishwasher; and washer and dryer. We are sooo excited!
We also went out as a group to eat a couple nights. One of the nights, we were treated to an evening of entertainment: dancing and fire-walkers!
Over-all it was a marvelous learning and social event! Here we are! The South Pacific TVET Missionary Couples: Meyers (Tonga), Goodlets (Samoa), Alands (New Zealand--our coordinators), Collins (Fiji), and the Boghs (Kiribati)are missing in the picture.
AND....here they are! The Boghs!
